Fear of Flying

The fear of flying (aerophobia) is an excessive worry about air travel. It is believed to affect one in ten of the population, however some studies suggest that the proportion is much higher.

Doctors no longer prescribe sedatives to manage fear of flying.

This is because it just isn’t safe and the airlines are very much against it. In an emergency situation, you may not be able to respond quickly, and because you may be in a deep sleep and not moving around, the risk of thrombosis (blood clots) is increased, especially on flights longer than 4 hours.

To find out more about this condition, including Self Help Diagnosis, please see Fear of Flying on the Anxiety UK website.
