Home Visits

We are happy to make home visits to patients who are too ill to visit the surgery. For example we see people who are housebound or terminally ill, or frail elderly people who can’t readily get to the surgery.

We can see several people in the surgery in the time it takes to make a home visit. It is also much easier to do full examinations and tests in the surgery, so we do expect to see most people, particularly young people or children, in the surgery. This means we can see more people each day.

If you feel you might need a home visit, please telephone reception on 0191 219 6100 or submit on online request Contact us about your request (accurx.com) before 12 o’clock. One of the doctors will ring you back to assess your problem. Please let the receptionist know if you think the problem is urgent.

We do our home visits around lunchtime, so any requests for home visits later than this should be for emergencies only.

We work closely with the district nursing team, and if your problem is one that might be more suitable for a nurse to deal with, we may ask them to see you.
